About Us

The journey for the AquaSafeStraw starts back in 1997.  The inventor, Razmik Mikaelian, had the initial idea for a personal portable water filter while working in the water filtration and purification industry as an Engineer. Razmik worked in water filtration on major commercial and industrial buildings, on national sized projects, not only in Australia, but in the US, India, Asia and the Middle East.   The scale of some of these projects where the size of 8-10 football fields.  The projects used a range of technologies to convert contaminated undrinkable water into drinkable and/or recyclable water.

While on vacation in 1997, the need for a personal, portable water filter became very apparent to Razmik. This was as a result of the family becoming ill with a gastrointestinal upset from bacterially contaminated water. “Necessity is the mother of invention”.

On returning home, using his knowledge of water filtration and purification for bacteria, Giardia and Cryptosporidium sizes, he came up with a concept of using a microfiltration to remove the “nasties” out of the water in a portable reusable device.  Part of the concept is to be able to use the device immediately without impacting your heath through chemical purification, while being portable and long use.  He wanted to keep the product as human friendly as possible.

Andie and Robert Domanko were introduced to Razmik by a mutual friend, as he was developing the product, and became involved. They saw the huge potential for what the product could do for people and our environment.  They believe that the “Straw” would make a difference.  For people who travel, hiking/ camping it is ideal application to access safe clean water that is chemical free.  It has enormous application for third world countries, where millions of people are dying due to water related illness.  The  other main benefit Andie and Robert saw was that product could massively reduce CO2 by eliminating literally thousands of plastic water bottles.  Each “Straw” can eliminate some 1000 plastic water bottles.

After several years of developing the product, the AquaSafeStraw became a reality.  The first light weight, portable, chemical free water purification device not only meets EPA, US CDC and World Health Organizations Guidelines but exceeds them.

Once the “straw” was developed, work started on the mass production of these units to make the product cost effective.  This process was exhausting as quality control was paramount (every single unit is tested).   After almost 3 years of effort, a unique process to manufacture the units to the upmost levels of quality was mastered.

For the next couple of years we were selling and marketing the product locally to ensure the durability, reliability are of met to the highest levels.  We know we have exceeded in that and after many thousands of units being used not one, yes not one, unit has failed in any regard.

The successful development of the product range continues, with new, exciting products continuing to be added to the AquaSafeCorp range.

The ideal Travel Accessory – AquaSafeBottle

Thursday, October 08, 2009

ON a recent travel tour to the US, an elderly couple travelled from the west coast to ending in New York on the West Coast.  It lasted for 4 ½ weeks.  They had an exceptional time.  What made it that much better, they didn’t get sick once unlike many of the older pensioners on the trip.  Most had some form of gastro for several days.  They put it down to use the Aqua Safe Bottle+.  The AquaSafeBottle takes out not only bacteria to 99.9999% it also takes out protozoa’s to 99.9999% and viruses to 99.99%. Read More...
